Wijziging van de Telecommunicatiewet in verband met de aanpassing van de bewaartermijn voor telecommunicatiegegevens met betrekking tot internettoegang, e-mail over het internet en internettelefonie

Stage otherUpdated 6d ago

This Dutch bill amends the Telecommunications Act to adjust how long telecom providers must keep traffic data related to internet access, internet email and internet telephony. Such retention rules determine how long records of who communicated with whom, and when, remain available to be accessed under legal conditions, for example by investigative authorities. The change matters because it balances privacy protection against the needs of criminal investigations. Internet access providers, email services and internet telephony providers operating in the Netherlands would be directly affected, as they must store the data for the new period. Individuals whose communications generate such metadata would also be affected indirectly, since the length of storage determines how long their traffic data can be retrieved.
