This Belgian private member's bill would amend the 24 June 2013 law on municipal administrative sanctions. That law lets Belgian municipalities impose administrative fines for certain minor offences instead of sending them through the criminal courts. The bill would extend the list of 'mixed infractions', which are offences that can be handled either by the courts or by municipal sanctions. The change would mainly affect municipal authorities, which would be able to sanction a wider range of offences, and people accused of those offences, who could face administrative rather than criminal procedures.
