This Belgian private member's bill would amend the 1968 road traffic law, the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure to introduce a multiplier that adjusts traffic fines according to the offender's income. The aim is to make the financial impact of road traffic penalties more comparable across people with different means, so that a fixed fine does not weigh disproportionately on lower earners or have little effect on high earners. The change would apply to offences under the Belgian Highway Code. Drivers and other road users who receive fines would be affected, with the amount depending on their declared or assessed income. Authorities responsible for enforcing and collecting fines would also need to apply the new calculation.
