Mission & Goals
The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) is established under the Research, Science and Technology Act, 2004 (Act No. 23 of 2004) to promote, coordinate, and develop research, science, technology, and innovation (RSTI) in Namibia. Its primary goals include strengthening national RSTI capacity, ensuring systematic funding, fostering collaboration between researchers and industry, and advising the government on STI policies. It works to enable a thriving and sustainable national research, science, technology and innovation ecosystem and to serve as a leading catalyst of evidence-based transformation towards a sustainable and inclusive society. Its work includes policy coordination, support for research funding and grants management, monitoring of research and related activities, science promotion, innovation support, STI information systems, partnerships, and international cooperation.

Communication Activities
NCRST engages with European Union institutions, programmes and platforms on research and innovation cooperation, science policy, funding opportunities, capacity strengthening, and evidence-informed STI governance. Current areas of engagement include the AU-EU High-Level Policy Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation, the AU-EU Innovation Agenda, Horizon Europe work programmes and related calls, and wider EU-Africa cooperation on public health, green transition, innovation and technology, and capacities for science and higher education. Any communication or stakeholder activities reported under this heading relate only to these specific EU initiatives.

The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) in Namibia is a member of the: International Science Council (ISC) (since 2008). Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) in Sub-Saharan Africa/Active member/participant. Partnerships: Works with the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS). Regional Collaborations: Collaborates with organisations like the Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) National Research Foundation (NRF, South Africa) and National Science Institute (NSI).
