Mission & Goals
Dyad develops social technology that enables real-world, face-to-face conversations between people who have not previously met, with the aim of strengthening democratic culture and social cohesion. Our remit is to contribute to a European digital ecosystem that prioritises human autonomy, pluralism, and meaningful civic interaction over attention-driven engagement models. We design and advocate for transparent, user-governed systems that support epistemic diversity and reduce the negative societal effects of digital platforms, including polarization and social isolation. In this context, we engage with EU policy discussions on digital governance, platform accountability, and the role of technology in supporting democratic participation and collective sensemaking.

We contribute perspectives on transparency, user agency, and alternative social technologies that prioritise real-world interaction and pluralistic dialogue. We specifically examine how online platform structures can be complemented by offline-first interaction models that strengthen trust, deliberation, and democratic resilience.
Communication Activities
Dyad has conducted communication and engagement activities exploring the societal impact of digital platforms, public discourse, and democratic participation. These include the organisation of in-person conversation formats bringing together individuals from different perspectives to discuss topics related to technology, society, and polarization, as well as the publication of written content examining platform design, digital culture, and collective sensemaking. In addition, Dyad is developing media formats, including a video podcast series, that document and reflect on real-world conversations and their relationship to broader societal and technological dynamics. These activities contribute to ongoing public discourse relevant to EU initiatives such as the Digital Services Act, the Artificial Intelligence Act, and the European Democracy Action Plan, particularly in relation to platform accountability, trust, and social cohesion.
