Mission & Goals
The European Prison Litigation Network (EPLN) is a European network of civil society organisations dedicated to strengthening the legal protection of people deprived of their liberty. As of April 2026, the network brings together 32 organisations from 20 European countries. EPLN operates at the European level to remove barriers to prisoners’ access to justice and to enhance effective judicial responses to the structural problems affecting prison systems across Europe. Its activities combine coordinated strategic litigation with advocacy aimed at advancing human rights standards, as well as research projects designed to generate robust, evidence-based knowledge in support of civil society organisations’ work. EPLN's thematic priorities of action are the defense of prisoners’ access to justice, improving access to healthcare, combatting ill-treatment and enhancing access to sentence adjustments.
