Mission & Goals

Connection e.V. is a civil society organization based in Germany, founded in 1993 with the aim to advocate for the human right to conscientious objection to military service around the world. Connection collaborates with local human rights defenders in different regions of the world and partners with several civil society organizations. Connection is also active on the issue of asylum and protection for conscientious objectors persecuted in their country of origin. It has expertise in the field, good networking among civil society at the local and international level and does a consistent advocacy work at different levels. It has contributed to UN thematic reports, submitting information on the right to conscientious objection in several countries and is actively engaging in advocacy initiatives within the UN system. It has also engaged at the Council of Europe and the Committee of Ministers. It has received several recognitions for its work for human rights and peace.

Connection e.V. is not part of a formal network. Connection e.V. collaborates and sometimes co-sponsors press releases by European Bureau for Conscientious objection, International Fellowship of Reconciliation and War Resisters International. Connection e.V. partners with about 100 organizations and groups in particular initiatives such as, for instance, the #ObjectWarCampaign. Connection e.V. contributes to local groups of human rights defenders, providing legal assistance and capacity building support.
