Mission & Goals
The principal goal of Co-operation Ireland is to sustain peace in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland through helping to build a shared and cohesive society. By working in collaboration with others in these islands, including governments, our activities aim to address emerging challenges to peace, facilitate understanding, create positive relationships and build a sense of interdependence between communities. We also aim to actively share our learning and experience of peace building and practical co-operation internationally. Our sectors of engagement are civic society, leadership and youth. Under our current strategic plan, our programmes are primarily targeted at young people and marginalised communities which have experienced the worst impacts of the conflict.
EU Legislative Interests
1. The PEACE PLUS Programme, managed by SEUPB, follows EU funding rules to support cross-border cooperation. Key regulations set out how funding is used, who qualifies, and what projects can be supported. Regulations include: • EU rules for regional development funding (ERDF) • EU laws on how cross-border projects are managed (Interreg) This means that any project run by Cooperation Ireland under PEACE PLUS must follow these EU funding rules, even after Brexit. 2. Trade and Movement of Goods (The Windsor Framework) The Windsor Framework adjusts how Northern Ireland trades with both the UK and the EU.
