Mission & Goals
Astrolight’s goal is to develop and commercialise high-speed optical (laser) communication technologies that enable secure, high-throughput data transfer between space and Earth. The company focuses on building both space-based terminals and optical ground station infrastructure, and delivering these as an integrated service to satellite operators. Its remit is to address the growing bottleneck in satellite data downlink by replacing traditional radio-frequency systems with optical communication, offering significantly higher bandwidth, lower cost per data unit, and improved security. Astrolight aims to support next-generation satellite constellations, strengthen European sovereign space infrastructure, and enable more efficient use of space-derived data across commercial, governmental, and defence applications.
EU Legislative Interests
EU space policy, including development of secure and sovereign European space communication infrastructure (e.g. IRIS²), support for optical/satellite connectivity technologies, and initiatives strengthening resilience and autonomy of EU space data and communication networks.
Communication Activities
Meetings and briefings with European Commission representatives to present Astrolight’s optical communication technologies and discuss their relevance to EU space policy priorities. Participation in industry events, conferences, and forums addressing EU space programmes.
