Mission & Goals
AIRI – Italian Association for Industrial Research is a non-profit organisation founded in 1974 and a key reference point for Italy’s industrial research system. It brings together around 90 members from over ten strategic sectors, including industries, SMEs, universities, public research organisations and financial institutions. AIRI supports members in engaging with national institutions such as the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Ministry of University and Research, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, contributing to policies for innovation. It monitors EU Research and Innovation policies, provides foresight on technological scenarios through its publication “Priority Technologies for Industry”, promotes the adoption of innovative technologies, contributes to European initiatives and supports human capital development through training and scholarships.

Communication Activities
- Institutional relations – Engagement with Italian institutional stakeholders (e.g. MiMIT, MUR, MAECI, MASE) in connection with EU policies on Research & Innovation, with occasional participation in meetings and exchanges involving European-level actors. - Policy monitoring – Continuous monitoring of EU policies and programmes, including Horizon Europe and broader R&I-related initiatives, with a focus on their implications for Italian industry and research. - Advocacy support – Contribution to policy discussions through inputs, position papers, and feedback collected from members, mainly at national level and in relation to EU policy frameworks. - Communication activities – Production and dissemination of content (publications, reports, newsletters) aimed at informing members about EU policy developments and strategic priorities. - Events – Organisation of conferences, workshops and thematic meetings in Italy, addressing EU policy topics and fostering dialogue between industry, research and institutions.

Organisation Members
AIRI brings together a network of approximately 90 members active in industrial research and innovation in Italy, including large companies, SMEs, universities, public research organisations, consulting firms and financial institutions. Its members represent key stakeholders of the Italian R&I ecosystem and are both contributors to and beneficiaries of AIRI’s activities. AIRI facilitates the exchange of knowledge, best practices and strategic insights among its members, fostering collaboration across sectors and strengthening the link between industry, research and institutions. Through its activities, AIRI supports the alignment of its members with European Research & Innovation priorities, mainly through policy monitoring, dissemination of information and participation in national and European initiatives.
