Mission & Goals
We are a funding and development organisation for the arts and culture sector in Northern Ireland. We champion high-quality arts and cultural activity by artists, arts practitioners, organisations, venues and communities throughout Northern Ireland. The remit of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland is to: • Support individual artists and arts organisations. • Develop strategies for the development of the sector. • Promote arts education and lifelong learning to demonstrate its intrinsic value • Advise voluntary, community and statutory sectors on arts policy and the cultural sector. • Research the outcome and impact of arts based engagement to demonstrate its value to wider society.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland was established in 1995 as a non-departmental public body under the Arts Council (Northern Ireland) Order 1995. While the Arts Council receives exchequer funding, it retains operational independence. The order gives the Arts Council powers to: - Support artists and arts organisations - Organise and promote arts events, exhibitions and performances, - Promote arts education and training - Collaborate with similar bodies across the UK and internationally for the benefit of artists, arts organisations and wider society in Northern Ireland - Conduct research and publish information about the arts.
