How to Track EU Legislation

A practical guide to using GovLens and other tools to follow EU law-making.

Why track EU legislation?

EU laws affect your daily life — from data privacy to food safety to employment rights. Tracking legislation helps you understand what is being decided and how your representatives are voting.

Using GovLens

GovLens shows you the current status of EU legislative procedures, how MEPs voted, and which lobby organisations are active. You can filter by topic, stage, or country to find what is relevant to you.

Understanding the pipeline

The main GovLens view shows procedures organized by their current stage: Commission proposal, Committee, First reading, etc. This gives you a quick overview of where each law stands in the process.

Following specific topics

Use topic filters to focus on areas you care about. Subscribe to alerts to get notified when a procedure changes stage or when a vote is completed.

Other useful resources

EUR-Lex (eur-lex.europa.eu) publishes all official legal texts. The EP Legislative Observatory (OEIL) tracks procedures. The Council's public register shows national positions. GovLens brings these sources together.

This is factual reference content. GovLens is non-partisan. Data from official EU sources.
