Schengen acquis in Bulgaria and Romania: abolition of border checks

This procedure concerns the full application of the Schengen acquis, meaning checks at internal borders will be lifted for Bulgaria and Romania. This aims to facilitate free movement within the Schengen area.

Citizens and businesses travelling between Bulgaria, Romania, and other Schengen states will no longer face systematic border checks. This is expected to boost trade, tourism, and personal travel.
