Recast of Regulation (EU) No 604/2013 on requests for the comparison with Eurodac data by Member States' law enforcement authorities and Europol for law enforcement purposes (recast)
This procedure concerns the recast of the Eurodac regulation, which establishes a central EU database for comparing fingerprints. It aims to ensure the effective application of asylum rules and to help identify individuals staying illegally in the EU.
The updated rules will also allow law enforcement authorities and Europol to request comparisons with Eurodac data for the purpose of preventing and investigating serious crimes.
