Novel foods

This procedure concerns the rules for authorising and placing novel foods on the EU market. Novel foods are foods that have not been consumed to a significant degree in the EU before May 1997.

It aims to ensure a high level of protection for human health and consumer interests, while also facilitating the internal market for these innovative food products.
