Democracy, the Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights
This procedure proposes a new EU-wide system to monitor and protect democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights across member states. It aims to ensure that the core values of the European Union are upheld consistently in every country to prevent democratic backsliding.
This mechanism would affect EU member governments and national judicial systems. It seeks to create a more structured way to identify and address breaches of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
