Mission & Goals

Zero Waste Latvia (ZWL) was founded in 2018. The goals are: - To reduce the adverse impact of pollution caused by Latvian society on the environment; - To promote the development and education of Latvian society in accordance with the principles of sustainability; - To create and support environmentally friendly alternatives to polluting habits, services and goods, and to promote their adoption in the wider society; - To popularize the principles of a zero-waste lifestyle and a circular economy; - To provide support to those who wish to implement and promote zero-waste practices. We publish opinions in Latvian media, our experts are often invited to give opinions in TV, radio, newspapers regarding waste reduction and circular economy. Our organization participates in various projects - recycled waste content analysis, microplastic analysis transfer from food materials, annual waste brand audit, sustainable packaging guidelines and others. EU Legislative Interests

European Green deal, European Climate act, EU Circular Economy Act, EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, Right to repair directive, and others.

Communication Activities

Regular communication with policy makers on waste prevention, waste management, circular economy, EU inceneration capacity, etc. European Commission consultations with representatives of the non-governmental sector in the context of the European Semester process.
