Mission & Goals

Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) is an independent, non-profit international pan-European environmental network of non-governmental youth organisations concerned with youth empowerment on environmental issues and the current triple planetary crisis. YEE aims to unite environmental youth non-profit organisations in Europe. Its goals are to mitigate and adapt to the triple planetary crisis by: raising awareness and building capacity among youth on the climate crisis; enhancing international cooperation and knowledge-sharing among our members; strengthening participation of youth in environmental and climate decision-making processes; advocating for more ambitious environmental and climate commitments at local, national, European and international level. As the largest network of environmental youth organisations in Europe, YEE not only contributes to enhancing EU environmental sustainability and climate action, but also promotes a more inclusive, fair, and democratic EU society.

Communication Activities

As an organisation actively involved with the European Union (EU), YEE engages in a variety of communication activities to raise awareness on EU policies. Here are some of the key outreach efforts we undertake: Events: We organise and participate in numerous events, such as conferences, workshops, and public forums, to discuss and build understanding on EU policies. These events bring together stakeholders from various sectors, including government, academia, and civil society. YEE has been consistently raising awareness and building the capacity of young people on current EU environmental policies including the Ambient Air Quality legislative package, EU energy policies such as FitFor55, EU ETS, REPowerEU, and the National, Energy and Climate Plans by organising online and onsite workshops and trainings. Campaigns: We run targeted communication campaigns to raise awareness about specific EU policies or initiatives. These campaigns include social media outreach to reach a wide audience. YEE was part of a joint campaign “European Pact for the Future” that promotes the continuation of the European Green Deal and its vital importance for green and just transition within the European Union. One of the most important and long-term campaigns that YEE was an integral part of a joint action of NGOs was the campaign for EU Nature Restoration Law that YEE has promoted since it was first proposed in 2022. YEE was part of awareness campaigns as well as capacity-building events. YEE created its own social media campaign for the EU Elections 2024 and co-organised a panel discussion in Brussels about the future of the Green Deal after the elections. YEE produces a wide range of publications, including reports, brochures, and newsletters, to inform the public about EU activities and policies. These publications are often available in multiple languages to ensure broad accessibility. For example, YEE made an in-depth analysis of the NECPs of selected member states and the participation of youth in the process and has published the findings in 4 separate handbooks (translated into local languages) on its website as well as social media accounts. Furthermore, YEE volunteers created a guide to the 2024 EU Elections for young people to build their capacity on the elections process. YEE utilises digital platforms, such as our own website and social media accounts, to disseminate information and engage with the public.
