International development dialogue; EU and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; Cross-border giving; legal, regulatory and operational measures for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system; Enabling Environment for Civil Society and Philanthropy.

Communication Activities

In 2024, WINGS developed, hosted, and participated in more than 20 international philanthropy conferences and global multilateral platforms, including the EU Policy Forum on Development, the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (GPEDC), the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the G20/C20, and the Climate Change Conference (COP29). WINGS mobilized its network to ensure civil society and philanthropy's voice in global dialogues, supporting delegations and regional members across multiple key events. - EU Policy Forum on Development: WINGS coordinated regional participation throughout the year to influence the Global Gateway Civil Society and Local Authorities Dialogue Platform. In January, African members contributed to the EU’s Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Programme; in September, a LAC member attended the EU-LAC partnership meeting, and two Asian members joined the EU Policy Forum consultation for Asia Pacific. Furthermore, in October, Philea represented WINGS at the Advisory Platform to advocate on the European Manifesto. - UNGA: In September, WINGS co-hosted an event with Alianza Socioambiental Fondos del Sur, Giving Tuesday, Global Fund for Community Foundations, and the Hilton Foundation highlighting locally led development, with over 200 participants online and in person. Additionally, WINGS led a delegation of 15 representatives from 12 organizations to a side event on locally led development. - GPEDC: Continuing its role on the Steering Committee, WINGS supported members in Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines to participate in national dialogues, representing the philanthropic sector and engaging directly with governments to advance the SDGs and localization. - G20 / C20: Under Brazil’s presidency, WINGS partnered with GIFE and IIED to lead the first-ever C20 Working Group on Philanthropy for Sustainable Development. Engaging over 400 global contributors, the group developed recommendations that successfully influenced the G20 Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Declaration. - Climate Action & COP29: The Philanthropy For Climate movement surpassed 863 signatories. At COP29 in Baku, WINGS co-hosted the second Global Convening of Philanthropies with over 75 participants, the Global South Initiative Session with more than 40 attendees, and witnessed the launch of the Arab Regional Commitment. During Climate Week 2024, WINGS also co-hosted the first official philanthropy-focused event within the formal programme with the Council on Foundations and Climate Group. Publications: - 15 new Philanthropy Transformation Initiative (PTI) case studies - First International Commitment Progress Report (Philanthropy For Climate) - Evidence-based recommendations of the C20 Working Group on Philanthropy for Sustainable Development - OECD netFWD Statement on philanthropy’s role in the UN Summit of the Future and beyond - 46 new resources added to the WINGS Knowledge Centre (translated into French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese) - 25 member-contributed pieces published on the Philanthropy in Focus blog - Article series on funders investing in ecosystems and infrastructure (in partnership with Propel Philanthropy and Alliance Magazine)
