Mission & Goals

Since it’s inception in 1936 the WJC - the ‘Diplomatic Arm of the Jewish People’ - has been active in countless campaigns: advocating for justice for Holocaust victims and their heirs and protecting the memory of the Holocaust; combating antisemitism and all forms of racism and discrimination, raising public awareness to the dangers in incitement to religious, racial, or ethnic intolerance, oppression or persecution; fostering inter-faith dialogue; supporting the State of Israel; and promoting gender equality, diversity & inclusiveness and the involvement of younger Jews in communal leadership. WJC encourages and assists the development of Jewish social, religious, and cultural life, and supports Jewish education and the development of Jewish values to ensure Jewish continuity and the transmission of Jewish legacy from one generation to another. WJC strives to cooperate with governments, nations, organizations, and individuals, in the spirit of peace, freedom, equality and justice.

EU Legislative Interests

Monitoring the implementation of: - European Parliament Resolution on combating Antisemitism; - EU Council Framework Decision on Combating Certain Forms and Expressions of Racism and Xenophobia by Means of Criminal Law; - Council Declaration on the fight against antisemitism; - Council Declaration on mainstreaming the fight against antisemitism across policy areas; - EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life (2021-2030); - Conclusions on combating racism and antisemitism; - Council Declaration of fostering Jewish life and combating antisemitism; - EU Digital Service Act; - Article 17.

Communication Activities

The WJC organizes and hosts regular meetings of the Special Envoys and Coordinators Combating Antisemitism (SECCA) forum, together with the European Commission. SECCA was established to promote the exchange of views, share best practices and policies, and assess progress in the collective battle against antisemitism. Recent SECCA gatherings have focused on key challenges such as online antisemitism, the role of AI in detecting and moderating antisemitic content, and trends following October 7. High-level conference on the security of Jewish communities in the European Union, together with the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission titled: Security and Resilience Challenges: High-Level Conference on Protecting Jewish Communities in Europe. NOA - Networks Overcoming Antisemitism: Following the success of the first edition of the NOA Project, and the publication of National Report Cards (NRCs) in Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands, the second edition of is currently underway with NRCs planned for Spain and Estonia. The NOA project provides a mechanism to support Member States in the development and implementation of national action plans and provide a wealth of socio-cultural educational resources that can reverse the tide of antisemitic attitudes. #WeRemember Campaign has become the world's largest online Holocaust memorial initiative. The WJC and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), established aboutholocaust.org with the goal of providing young people with essential information about the history of the Holocaust and its legacy. In 2022, the WJC and UNESCO launched a new partnership with the online platform TikTok to tackle Holocaust distortion and denial. Users searching for terms relating to the Holocaust will be redirected to verified information.
