Mission & Goals

The WIMH Platform is a coalition of organisations dedicated to preserving Europe’s working industrial and mobile heritage. WIMH includes the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH), Europa Nostra (EN), the European Federation of Museum & Tourist Railways (FEDECRAIL), FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens), and the International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage (TICCIH). These organisations, along with countless volunteers and professionals, work to keep industrial heritage sites, railways, historic means of transport, and industrial equipment operational.

EU Legislative Interests

Culture Compass for Europe. European Cultural Heritage Strategy for the 21st Century: This strategy aims to promote cultural heritage as a shared resource, enhance its role in society, and support its sustainable management and preservation. It provides a framework for action at the EU and national levels. European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018: This initiative aimed to raise awareness of European cultural heritage, celebrate its diversity, and promote cultural heritage as a driver for social and economic development. Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro Convention): While not an EU regulation, the Faro Convention is a legally binding instrument that encourages a participatory approach to cultural heritage management and promotes the idea that heritage is a resource for sustainable development. European Capitals of Culture (ECOC) Creative Europe Programme Council Decision 2006/585/EC on European cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation (EUROPEAN HERITAGE LABEL) Regulation (EU) No 1303/2013 laying down common provisions on the European Regional Development Fund Regulation (EU) 2019/880 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on the introduction and the import of cultural goods Directive 2014/94/EU on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure Directive 2008/50/EC on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe CO₂ emission performance standards for cars and vans RefuelEU aviation FuelEU Maritime Directive 2014/52/EU amending Directive 2011/92/EU on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment (Environmental Impact Assessment Directive)
