Mission & Goals
The publishing house, founded in 1921 as Verlag Chemie, can look back on a publishing tradition of over 100 years. Since 1996, it has been part of the worldwide publishing group John Wiley & Sons, Inc. with headquarters in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. Founded in 1807, Wiley has served as a major communicator of information and knowledge for more than 200 years. The publishing programme covers many areas of the natural sciences - such as chemistry, materials and life sciences, physics, medicine and engineering - as well as business. Successfully working for and with scientific societies locally and globally is one of the publishing house's most important tasks. Wiley is a pioneer in open access and in 2019 became the first publisher to sign a contract with Project DEAL in Germany. The contract, which got renewed in 2023 for the period 2024-2028, provides more than 10,000 scientific articles from Germany freely available every year.
