Mission & Goals

We firmly believe the global jewellery and watch industry face unique opportunities to work together to make a positive impact. Founded by Kering and Cartier, delegated by Richemont, Watch and Jewellery Initiative 2030 is a multi-stakeholder action platform dedicated to uniting players across the watch and jewellery value chain to advance climate resilience, preserve resources, and foster inclusiveness. We empower companies of all sizes and maturity levels to take meaningful action and lead progress, future-proofing their businesses in a rapidly evolving regulatory and stakeholder landscape. Our open-source solutions are designed to provide scalable frameworks that enable companies to learn, action and report on progress. We believe in smart, multi-stakeholder collaboration as the key to driving measurable progress across the entire value chain and across industries.

EU Legislative Interests

The main legislative proposal is the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) as well as Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD, and the3 Omnibus simplification, and the implications this will have on companies directly and in directly affected.

Communication Activities

The Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 seeks to engage with the EU commission, specifically in the fields of due diligence and reporting (looking directly at CSDDD) to 1) better understand the implications on the watch and jewellery industry / supply chain, and how best to prepare companies with guidance and materials to meet legislative requirements, and 2) inform the commission and the guidelines they are developing on the impact of the legislation in an industry specific context. This was agreed with EU Commission in our past and ongoing engagement. To achieve these targets, WJI 2030 has and will organize meetings, roundtables and sessions, as well as engaging with the EU Commission to achieve the said targets. In April 2023 WJI 2030 hosted a roundtable with leaders in the watch and jewellery industry, as well as the EU Commissioner of Justice and his cabinet, to better understand the upcoming legislation but moreover to share industry specific insights on how this legislation will impact the players in scope, from the industry. This work has continued through a pilot project with members, which has looked at double materiality, supplier engagement and human rights and environmental due diligence - https://www.wjinitiative2030.org/app/uploads/2025/02/WJI2030-CSDDD-Guidance-Note_Final.pdf . WJI 2030 also conducted and industry impact assessment to support companies with their double materiality exercise - https://www.wjinitiative2030.org/app/uploads/2025/12/WJI2030_Impact-assessment-Guide_Dec-2025-2.pdf
