Mission & Goals
As a university Vrije Universtiteit Brussel follows a wide range of EU initiatives, policies and legislative files. As a research institution we are an avid participant of the framework programme Horizon Europe. We also adhere to the charter and the code of researchers and have the seal of HR excellence. Furthermore we monitor EU policy mainly surrounding HEU but also as a whole and in dept through our researchers involved in European Studies. We are following up on big issues such as data protection, ethics, animal testing, clinical trials, data management and storage, open access… As a university we are also very much involved with the Erasmus+ programme. We have experts keeping up to date with EU regulation and aligning these with our internal rules and practices. Our researchers are often functioning as experts and evaluators for the EC. We take part in a number of surveys and stakeholder consultations by the EU or the EC.
EU Legislative Interests
As Vrije Universiteit Brussel has around 230 active EU (co-)funded education and research/innovation projects running, the institution is merely targeting influencing the activities under the European Research Area and the European Higher Education Area by participating to or working on: - public consultations (e.g. on the ERA 2025-2027); - Assessment of the implementation of Horizon Europe in view of its interim evaluation and recommendations for FP10 - Future proposals for Erasmus+ (including connected policy developments related to the European Universities Initiative) - Multiannual Financial Framework 2028 – 2035
