Mission & Goals
VITO, a leading European research centre with 1,300 employees, turns scientific insights into groundbreaking technological innovations, AI solutions, and policy advice. As a science-to-technology partner, we support companies, governments, and society in their sustainability transition. With our multidisciplinary approach and unique lab, scale-up, and testing infrastructure, we create practical technological innovations. We accelerate progress towards a regenerative economy that reinforces planetary boundaries (prioritising electrification and circularity), smart climate solutions for resilient and secure ecosystems, and a healthy living environment harmonising humans, industry, agriculture, and nature. Through positive transition thinking and comprehensive techno-economic analysis, we deliver systemic solutions that are effective not only on paper but also in the complex realities of everyday life.
EU Legislative Interests
VITO as a top Research and Technology Organisation addressing the EU and global societal challenges seeks to increase its impact by advocating and acting on EU policies. VITO’s policy impact areas: A regenerative economy: economy and ecology in balance – we aim to drive economic prosperity through te sustainable use of resources while reinforcing planetary boundaries. Resilient ecosystems: we help companies and governments with climate mitigation and adaptation solutions. We aim to create ecosystems that are more resilient to disasters, thereby enhancing our overall resilience and security. A healthy living environment: a healthy and sustainable living environment for all is a core element of VITO’s vision. Here, we focus on how to maintain a harmonious balance between the human environment, nature, agriculture and industry.
