Mission & Goals
As the representative of consumer lenders in the Netherlands, the VFN's main goal is to promote responsible lending and a vital Dutch credit market. The main finance companies in the Netherlands are members of the VFN. Members are mainly subsidiaries of (international) general banks, branded car financiers and independent finance companies. Other organisations with interfaces with consumer credit can also join, but as associate members.
EU Legislative Interests
The main EU dossiers which the VFN is following are around (consumer) credit policy, financial services, poverty policy and debt relief, sustainability (among which in the built environment and transport) and digitalisation (among which artificial intelligence and source data policy). Of interest are, among other legislations: - Consumer Credit Directive - Artificial Intelligence Act - EU Green Taxonomy Regulation - Regulation on Financial Data Access - Anti-money laundering regulation
Communication Activities
The VFN is closely monitoring the decision-making and implementation around EU legislation relevant to (consumer) credit sector. The bureau writes positions papers and reacts to open consultations concerning EU legislation. It distributes newsletters to its members and organizes network meetings for our members in which EU legislation is discussed and evaluated.
