Mission & Goals

Our mission is to provide a platform of solidarity and knowledge exchange for unrepresented peoples worldwide while fostering dialogues with the international community to collaboratively advance a peaceful, democratic, equitable, and sustainable world. We envision a world where the voices of all peoples and nations are heard, valued, and respected a world where fundamental rights, including the freedom to determine political status and the pursuit of economic, social, and cultural development, are upheld for everyone. UNPO believes that true universal peace and development are built on the pillars of solidarity, respect, cooperation, and friendship among all Peoples and Nations. Our vision is a future where peoples and nations thrive under systems of governance that honor fundamental human rights.

EU Legislative Interests

UNPO follows the EU foreign policy agenda with regards to human minority rights in third countries. In addition, the UNPO pays attention to the EU internal policies with a special focus on civil liberties and justice. Specific EU Legislative proposals or policies that we have a particular interest in include: 1. Related to transnational repression occurring within the EU by third country actors: a. EU Legislation on Criminal Justice within the EU, specifically the Victims Rights and Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters legislation, b. Europol Serious and Organized Crime Threat Assessment (SCOTA), c. Action Plan against Disinformation, and associated actions and policies in the framework of the INGE2 Special Committee on Foreign Interference in All Democratic Processes in the European Union. gaps thereto in the context of transnational reprisals in Europe. 2. Related to EU trade agenda in the context of human rights violations being conducted by third countries against their populations: a. Proposals for regulations on EU Due Diligence and forced labour directives. b. European Magnitsky Act, and associated targeted sanctions regimes. 3. Related to country-specific human rights programming a. Resolutions of the European Parliament related to specific countries and their human rights violations, including related in particular to Iran, China and Russia b. EU response to the invasion of Ukraine. c. EU Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders

Communication Activities

- Organizing and participating in meetings, conferences or events related to human rights; - Participating in consultations or hearings; - Organizing communication campaigns around UNPO reports on systemic human rights violations.
