Mission & Goals
The University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) is a private, non-profit higher education institution founded in 2004 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in disciplines such as computer science, economics, international relations, medicine, and the arts. SSST aims to provide high-quality, internationally recognized education, with dual degrees awarded in partnership with the University of Buckingham (UK). The university promotes academic excellence, innovation, and societal impact through research, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship. SSST is actively involved in EU-funded projects (Erasmus+, Horizon Europe), vocational training, and international mobility, and contributes to sustainable development, inclusion, and regional cooperation.
EU Legislative Interests
The University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) aligns its education, research, and international cooperation activities with several key EU legislative proposals and policy priorities, particularly through participation in Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, and other EU-funded initiatives. As part of its strategic commitment to digital transformation, vocational excellence, innovation, and sustainability, SSST's interest representation activities most recently align with the following EU legislative frameworks and proposals: European Strategy for Universities (2022) – SSST actively engages with this initiative through its focus on internationalization, academic mobility, digitalisation of education, and cross-border cooperation in higher education. Council Recommendation on a European Approach to Micro-credentials for Lifelong Learning and Employability (2022) – SSST supports the development of flexible, skills-based learning pathways and is working to incorporate micro-credential frameworks in its VET and continuing education efforts. Digital Education Action Plan 2021–2027 – SSST contributes to this agenda through its Innovation Lab, GAIA Lab, and VR Lab, fostering digital readiness, use of immersive technologies, and AI-driven tools in education. Pact for Skills (2020) – SSST's participation in Erasmus+ Capacity Building projects and vocational training aligns with the Pact’s objectives of strengthening upskilling and reskilling efforts in collaboration with regional and European partners. European Skills Agenda (2020) – SSST contributes to lifelong learning and strengthening vocational education, especially in digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills, supporting sustainable competitiveness and social fairness. European Green Deal (2019) – SSST supports this policy through research activities in green technology, energy efficiency practices on campus, and awareness-building on climate resilience within its academic programs. European Education Area initiatives – SSST works toward building an inclusive, high-quality European Education Area by 2025, engaging in mobility programs, capacity building, and curriculum development aligned with EU values and quality standards. Through these aligned activities, SSST reinforces its role in the broader European Higher Education and Research Area, contributing to the implementation and practical outcomes of EU policy in education, research, skills development, and sustainability.
Communication Activities
The University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) actively engages in outreach activities that promote EU policies and priorities in the fields of education, digital transformation, skills development, sustainability, and inclusion. These activities are linked to SSST’s involvement in EU-funded programs and its commitment to supporting EU-level objectives through direct dissemination, institutional dialogue, and project-based collaboration. SSST has participated in multiple Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects, which included direct communication and reporting to the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), National Erasmus+ offices, and EU project officers. As part of these projects, SSST has co-hosted and participated in kick-off meetings, mid-term reviews, and final conferences where EU representatives were present or involved in oversight and quality assurance. For example, during the BalVET-EWEC Erasmus+ CBHE project, SSST organized a national dissemination workshop focused on vocational education reform and digital skills. Outcomes were shared with stakeholders including the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the National Erasmus+ Office. These events promoted the European Skills Agenda and the Digital Education Action Plan through the presentation of regional policy needs and educational gaps. The Sustainable Pharmacy 2025 conference, organized by Sarajevo Medical School at SSST, also addressed EU health and environmental policies. Invitations and briefings were extended to relevant EU bodies and networks, including participants in Horizon Europe health clusters. SSST engages in EU policy alignment through its partnership with the University of Buckingham, ensuring dual-degree programs meet both national and European quality assurance standards. Additional outreach includes institutional participation in events hosted or supported by the European Commission, National Erasmus+ Offices, and through ongoing cooperation under Erasmus+ Key Action 1 mobility projects. SSST regularly communicates project results and policy recommendations to these institutions, particularly in areas related to mobility, inclusion, and micro-credential development. SSST also maintains active digital communication aligned with EU policy themes. Through public websites, newsletters, and social media, the university shares updates on its EU-aligned initiatives and reports, tagging EU institutions and project consortia to increase visibility and policy impact. These targeted communication activities reinforce SSST’s role as a regional academic stakeholder committed to advancing EU strategic goals and fostering dialogue between the EU and higher education institutions in the Western Balkans.
