Mission & Goals
The University of Tartu (UT) prides itself on being Estonia’s premier institution of higher learning and is steadily moving towards becoming one of the leading institutions for innovative education and cutting-edge research in the Nordic region. As the only university in the Baltic States, UT continues to be ranked in the top 1.2% of the world’s top universities, placing 358th in the latest (2024) edition of the QS World University Rankings and within the 301–350 range in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024. Membership in several high-level research university networks such as The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, the Coimbra Group, LERU-CE7, and the Europaeum, enables UT to play an active role in the shaping of European research and higher education policies, and facilitates a well-functioning exchange of information and mobility of researchers, staff and students.
