Mission & Goals

The University of Saskatchewan is located in the vibrant city of Saskatoon, Canada, on Treaty 6 territory and the traditional homeland of the Métis. It is a world leader in water and food security, vaccine development and infectious diseases, and human, animal and environmental health.The University of Saskatchewan is a member of the U15 Group of Canadian research-intensive universities and it is home to top research facilities such as the Canadian Light Source (CLS), Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) Global Water Futures Observatories (GWFO), and Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SUPERDARN). The University of Saskatchewan is proud to be home to an international community of postdoctoral scholars and growing numbers of graduate students, of which 38 per cent are international and nine per cent self-declare as Indigenous. It was ranked 131st in the world in the sustainability rankings, placing the university firmly among the top-ranked universities globally.

EU Legislative Interests

University of Saskatchewan is engaged in Horizon Europe (and in previous Framework Programmes since their inception), European Research Council, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, ERASMUS, and other Euopean programmes. The research acitivities of the University of Saskatchewan contribute to the Horizon Europe legislation, European Green Deal, Digital Services Act, Artificial Intelligence Act, Copyright legislation, Erasmus legislation, The European Research Area Act, Life Science Strategy, European Innovation Act, Erasmus+ and student mobility, International cooperation in R&I, The European Education Area, The UN Sustainable Development Goals, digital transformation, quantum technologies, green agricultural policies and others.

Communication Activities

USask support meetings, workshops and panel discussions with representatives from the EU delegation to Canada, EC, EURAXXES. and emassies of European countries. The University of Saskatchewan works extensively with the U15 network, and the Universities of Canada on EU policies. The University of Saskatchewan staff interact with members of the European Commission. The International Office provides support to colleagues at the University of Saskatchewan with their European activities, enahncing the university's profile in Europe, supporting and influencing policy and funding initiatives, and deepening ties with key partners.

The University of Saskatchewan is a member of the following university-wide organisations and networks: Association of Commonwealth Universities, Canadian Bureau of Intertnational Education, Academic Without Borders, Association of Public Land Grant Universities. In addition individuals, faculties, departments and centres at the university may have local memberships and affiliations such as those with the European Association for International Education, EURAXXES and others. As a Canadian university we have collaborative partnerships with many other universities and research organisations, working collaboratively on diverse research projects.
