Mission & Goals

Founded in 1961, the University of Twente is a young, dynamic, entrepreneurial university with nearly 4,000 employees and 12,000 students. Given UT’s mission to be a university of technology that puts people first, we ensure that the power of science and technology is harnessed to achieve the best possible impact in a changing world. We cherish our rich tradition of combining technical and social sciences in our five profiling themes: improving healthcare by personalised technologies, creating intelligent manufacturing systems, shaping our world with smart materials, engineering our digital society, and engineering for a resilient world. Our research institutes combine scientific excellence with a sharp eye for knowledge valorisation and social application and are highly successful in generating spin-off businesses. Our mission and vision are stated in the Shaping2030 document: https://www.utwente.nl/en/organisation/about/shaping2030/
