Mission & Goals
The National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest has over two centuries of heritage in the Central and Eastern European engineering landscape. We are renowned as a community who succeeded in changing a country and contributed to the development of the European region it pertained to, by being open, innovative and celebrating creativity. These values are the foundation of our university and the DNA of all our activities and community. We are home to 40,500 students being trained in 21 faculties and having access to 87 cutting-edge Research Centres and a total of 414 Bachelor and Master's programs. Following POLITEHNICA's registration in the Transparency Register, it is our intention to target expanding our international presence, creating sustainable development technologies, protecting the environment and finding solutions to the world challenges through research, creativity and powerful knowledge fundamentals.
EU Legislative Interests
POLITEHNICA Bucharest contributes to European higher education, research and innovation policy discussions through its participation in European associations, stakeholder platforms and expert communities, including CESAER, the European University Association (EUA), EELISA Alliance, the EOSC Association and other European collaborative initiatives related to research, digital transformation and higher education. University representatives and experts engaged in working groups, consultations, technical discussions and policy-oriented activities coordinated within these European structures. They have contributed as participants and co-authors to position papers, consultations and stakeholder contributions addressing European research, innovation, digital and higher education policies. The university’s recent activities have included contributions related to: • European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda 2022–2024 and discussions concerning the future ERA Act, particularly regarding Open Science, research assessment, research security and dual-use research; • activities within CESAER working groups related to open science, research security and dual-use technologies; • European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) governance, interoperability, data sharing and open science policy development; • Communication from the Commission on a European strategy for data; • Digital Europe Programme initiatives concerning AI, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructures and common European data spaces; • Proposal for a Regulation laying down harmonised rules on Artificial Intelligence (Artificial Intelligence Act); • Proposal for a Regulation on a Single Market for Digital Services (Digital Services Act); • Horizon Europe implementation and stakeholder discussions concerning the future Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10); • Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) discussions concerning research, innovation and higher education priorities; • European initiatives related to responsible internationalisation of research, research security and dual-use technologies; • European cybersecurity initiatives linked to the activities of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC).
Communication Activities
POLITEHNICA Bucharest supported the European policy discussions through participation in CESAER, EUA and EOSC working groups, task forces, consultations and policy drafting activities. University representatives contributed to position papers and expert discussions addressing: • Open Science policies; • Research assessment reform; • Research security and dual-use research issues; • EOSC governance and implementation; • Future FP10 and MFF priorities; • AI, cybersecurity and digital transition policies; • Advanced digital skills and engineering education. Experts from POLITEHNICA Bucharest have participated as contributors and co-authors in policy-oriented documents coordinated by European university associations and stakeholder platforms. The university additionally participates in dissemination and stakeholder engagement activities related to European research, innovation and higher education policies, including workshops, conferences, consultation activities and collaborative European initiatives.
