Mission & Goals
The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) is a public institution of research and higher education in the fields of engineering, architecture, sciences and technology, and one of the leading technical universities in Europe. Every year, close to 6,000 bachelor’s and master’s students, more than 300 doctoral students and 1,600 continuing education students graduate. The UPC has >3,700 teaching and resesearch professionals who actively engage in European research and innovation programmes, including projects funded under Horizon Europe.
EU Legislative Interests
The organisation contributes to EU policy development primarily through participation in research and innovation activities and the provision of scientific and technical expertise. Relevant EU policies and initiatives include: European Research Area Act Horizon Europe & future Framework Programme Research& Technology Infrastructure strategy Startups & Scaleups Strategy Innovation Act Circular Economy Act Industrial Accelerator Act European Ocean Act In the broader context, the interest and expertise : The Horizon Europe framework programme for research and innovation The European Green Deal and related climate and sustainability policies The EU Digital Strategy, including artificial intelligence and data policies Energy transition and decarbonisation policies Sustainable transport and mobility initiatives Industrial and technological innovation policies European Innovation Council European Institute for Innovation and Technology Activities are mainly carried out in the context of EU-funded projects, expert groups, and collaborative research networks.
Communication Activities
The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya engages in communication activities related to EU policies mainly through the dissemination of research results and participation in collaborative initiatives. These activities include: Publication of scientific articles, reports, and policy-relevant outputs Organisation and participation in conferences, workshops, and EU-related events Contribution to stakeholder consultations, expert groups, and thematic platforms Communication and dissemination activities in the framework of EU-funded projects (e.g. Horizon Europe), including public deliverables and outreach actions Collaboration with European research networks and institutional partners All activities are carried out in line with the organisation’s academic mission and aim to support knowledge transfer and evidence-based policymaking.
