Mission & Goals

Unisoc is the Belgian employers’ organisation for the Social Services of General Interest (SSGI). It represents over 33.000 non-profit-making organisations and over 750.000 employees in Belgium. Unisoc stands for social entrepreneurship. It supports and strengthens its members in their production of SSGI that are vital to the entire population and which therefore have to be of a high quality and (financially) accessible to everybody. Add to this the non-profit-making guideline stipulating that profits should be reinvested in the production of SSGI rather than distributed to shareholders and you have the main guiding principle of the social entrepreneurship Unisoc stands for. Unisoc achieves its objectives through its participation in the cross-industry social dialogue in Belgium and Europe as an officially recognised partner by law.

EU Legislative Interests

As a Belgian interprofessional employers' organisation, we monitor several topics that can have an impact on social enterprises in areas such as labour market, economy and taxation. We follow up on this work mainly through our European umbrella organisation SGI Europe. We are a member of them, and they do most of the lobbying on these issues for us. Below are some topics that are important to our members and that we have therefore followed up on. 1. European Green Deal and Related Legislation: - Fit for 55 Package: Climate and energy legislative measures, including the revision of the Energy Efficiency Directive and Renewable Energy Directive, to meet the EU's 2030 climate targets. - RePowerEU Plan: Supporting measures to enhance energy security and accelerate the green energy transition. 2. Digital Services and Market Regulation Artificial Intelligence Act: Promoting a human-centric approach to AI and ensuring its use benefits public services and users. 3. Labor Market and Social Policies - European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan: Supporting measures that ensure quality jobs, fair working conditions, and skills development in essential sectors. Developping sectors such as Health care, child care and education. - Platform Work Directive: Monitoring its impact on employment practices and service provision in the digital economy. - Adequate Minimum Wages Directive: Advocating for balanced approaches that support both employers and workers. - The Pay Transparency Directive that aims to ensure equal pay for equal work and addresses pay gaps between men and women, aligning with the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights. - The European consultation on telework and the right to disconnect is an important policy area. This consultation is part of the EU's broader efforts to adapt labor laws and workplace practices to the realities of the digital and post-pandemic era, aligning with principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights. - Quality jobs roadmap: as employers, it is important to offer quality jobs to employees. But with attention for the administrative burden and the existing directives and regulation. - Union of skills: skills and labour shortages are important challenges in the world of work. 4. Single Market Legislation - Public Procurement Directives: Advocating for adaptations that support SGIs' unique roles and minimize administrative burdens. - State Aid Guidelines: Ensuring that rules allow for adequate public support to SGIs without compromising the single market. 5. Health and Social Services - Long-Term Care Strategy: Engaging with measures to address challenges in aging populations and social care sectors. 6. Skills and Workforce Development - European Year of Skills 2023: Leveraging the initiative to influence skills development policies and funding for the SGI workforce. - Pact for Skills: Ensuring SGIs are included in skill development initiatives to address labor shortages. 7. Environmental and Circular Economy Policies - Circular Economy Action Plan: Supporting legislative measures that promote sustainable consumption and waste reduction, particularly in water and waste management sectors.
