Communication Activities

The UN Global Compact Network Georgia (UNGCNG) actively supports Georgia’s EU integration by promoting alignment with EU regulations and fostering corporate sustainability in the private sector. Through the creation of an EU Regulations Action Platform, we assist our member companies in understanding and adopting critical EU regulations, such as the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This is especially important as Georgia’s EU candidacy enhances its appeal for foreign investments, trade partnerships, and funding opportunities that prioritize sustainable practices. Our EU Regulations Action Platform facilitates knowledge sharing, capacity building, and partnerships, offering businesses insights and tools to meet EU standards and increase competitiveness. It also raises awareness of the growing demand for sustainable products and services, encouraging local businesses to prioritize sustainability to remain competitive in both domestic and EU markets. Key activities include: 1. Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building: We conduct training sessions, such as a 10-hour course on EU regulations for the private sector. This helps businesses understand new regulations and how to implement them effectively. 2. Media Engagement: We launched a TV rubric called Business and EU Talks, featuring interviews with Members of the European Parliament, EU Delegation representatives in Georgia, and leaders from the private sector, raising awareness on EU regulatory standards and their relevance for Georgian businesses. 3. Partnerships and Events: On April 17-18, 2024, UN Global Compact organized the "UN Global Compact: Catalyst for EU Corporate Sustainability and Competitiveness" conference at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event featured prominent figures like MEPs Samira Rafaela, Heidi Hautala, and Pascal Durand, as well as representatives from the European Commission and leading businesses. It fostered dialogue on how businesses can embrace new EU regulations, aligning corporate strategies with EU sustainability goals. 4. Strategic Engagement with EU Institutions: Our activities also focus on strengthening ties with EU institutions, particularly the European Commission and Parliament. We want to bring Georgian companies to Brussels to engage with EU policymakers and business leaders, ensuring that Georgian businesses are informed and involved in shaping corporate sustainability regulations that align with EU standards. 5. Publications and Resources: We are working on a series of publications to support businesses in Georgia, including guidelines on CSRD reporting, white papers on EU sustainability regulations, and resources on the sustainability aspects of the EU-Georgia Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). These documents help businesses better understand regulatory requirements and how to align with them. One issue of our corporate sustainability magazine, Sustainability Spotlight, was dedicated to Georgia’s EU integration and the role of the private sector. 6. Future Initiatives: We are developing a Georgian-language EU Programme for our Online Academy, ensuring that businesses across Georgia have easy access to educational materials on EU corporate sustainability regulations. Additionally, we are partnering with national media outlets to produce and broadcast a TV show focusing on EU regulations and business sustainability. By leveraging UNGC’s global network and the expertise of our stakeholders, we aim to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices in Georgia’s private sector, enhance competitiveness, and ensure alignment with EU regulations. This holistic approach promotes corporate sustainability, supports Georgia’s EU integration journey, and prepares businesses to meet global standards.
