Mission & Goals
Providing Humanitarian Aid Through Sustainable Solutions At International Humanitarian Relief (IHR), our mission is to improve the lives of individuals impacted by conflict, disasters, and violence by delivering sustainable, inclusive, and comprehensive humanitarian aid. We are a woman-led organization, and we believe that empowering women is central to creating stronger, more resilient communities. Our work not only addresses immediate needs but also promotes long-term development and recovery. Gender equality is at the core of our approach, ensuring that women lead and play a vital role in rebuilding their communities.
EU Legislative Interests
European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid IHR engages with the European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid, advocating for policies that support effective, coordinated, and accountable humanitarian responses in conflict-affected regions, particularly in Syria. We focus on ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches vulnerable populations, with a strong emphasis on women and children. EU Humanitarian Aid Regulation (EU Budget 2021-2027) IHR aligns with the EU's humanitarian aid regulations, focusing on policies that fund and streamline humanitarian assistance in crisis areas like Syria. We contribute to discussions on the efficiency of EU aid allocation and how it can best address the needs of displaced Syrians and affected communities. EU Strategy for Syria (2017-2020) IHR supports the EU's ongoing strategy for Syria, advocating for a continued and more robust EU engagement in addressing the long-term humanitarian crisis in the country. We focus on the need for humanitarian aid, protection of civilians, and support for sustainable peace-building efforts. European Parliament’s Humanitarian Response to Crises IHR actively engages in dialogues, such as the upcoming exchange with the European Parliament's Committee on Development, which focuses on how the EU Parliament can enhance its support for humanitarian operations in Syria. We provide recommendations on improving EU mechanisms to better address the immediate needs and promote long-term recovery in Syria. Sanctions on Syria and Post-Conflict Reconstruction IHR advocates for a reconsideration of EU sanctions on Syria in light of the recent changes in governance and the need for international support in rebuilding the country. We believe that lifting or easing sanctions is critical for the country’s reconstruction efforts, especially to enable the rebuilding of essential infrastructure, the economy, and the restoration of livelihoods. We support a humanitarian approach that fosters peace and stability, enabling the reconstruction of Syria with the cooperation of the international community, including the EU.
Communication Activities
Exchange of Views with the European Parliament's Committee on Development IHR was invited to participate in an exchange of views with the European Parliament’s Committee on Development to discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria. This engagement allows us to directly influence EU policy discussions on humanitarian aid, post-conflict reconstruction, and the potential impact of sanctions on Syria's rebuilding efforts. We use these opportunities to advocate for a more sustainable and inclusive approach to Syria’s recovery, with a focus on gender equality and long-term development.
