Mission & Goals

The UK Pesticides Campaign was founded in 2001 and is the only campaign across Europe that specifically exists to highlight the risks and adverse health, environmental and financial impacts of pesticides on rural residents and communities, as well as on other members of the public exposed. Over the last 25 years the UK Pesticides Campaign has produced extensive written and visual materials, as well as making a number of oral presentations across Europe, to highlight chemical exposure and the acute and chronic adverse impacts on residents and communities. The visual materials produced included 2 videos entitled "Pesticide Exposures for People in Agricultural Areas – Part 1 Pesticides in the Air; Part 2 The Hidden Costs". The UK Pesticides Campaign has been campaigning for urgent changes to pesticides policies to address the lack of protection for residents from exposure to pesticides sprayed in locality of residents’ homes, as well as in locality of schools, and other areas.

EU Legislative Interests

Any of the EU policies, laws, and initiatives, relating to the authorisation and use of pesticides across the EU, including EU Regulation 1107/2009, the Sustainable Use Directive 2009/128/EC, Commission Regulation (EU) No 284/2013 of 1st March 2013, amongst others, including all relevant activities of the European Food Safety Authority, and relevant EU Standing Committees involving pesticides. There are new draft Regulations on pesticides currently being proposed by the Commission and the UK Pesticides Campaign will make the relevant submissions to this and will also be involved in the EFSA stakeholder pesticides event at the end of March 2022.

Communication Activities

The UK Pesticides Campaign will be involved in the EFSA stakeholder pesticides event at the end of March 2022 and was specifically invited to do so by EFSA as a recognised expert on exposure of rural residents and communities to agricultural pesticides sprayed on crops and the exposure and risk assessment inadequacies
