Mission & Goals

The University of Turku is an internationally active and attractive research university whose strength lies in high-quality, multidisciplinary research. We promote education and free science and provide higher education based on research. We collaborate closely with Finnish society and actively participate in the development of the region. As one of the leading universities in Finland, the University of Turku offers study and research opportunities in eight faculties: Education, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Science, Social Sciences, Technology, and Turku School of Economics; and in four independent units: Centre of Language and Communication Studies, Finnish Centre for Astronomy with ESO, Turku Bioscience Centre, and Turku PET Centre. In the international QS ranking, the University of Turku is among the top 400 universities (QS Ranking 2025).

Communication Activities

The University of Turku has been involved in EU funded research projects since the 2nd Framework Programme. During past years we have tightened the relations towards institutions and Brussels with several actions. One person works part-time in Brussels. Researchers advocating and capacity building visits in Brussels to meet relevant stakeholders. University management have regular meetings with MEPs, European Commission and other stakeholders. Expert consultations on relevant fields of research. The University of Turku is an active member in key EU-level networks and participate in their communications.
