Mission & Goals
Boston University is a non-profit educational and research institution in the US. Boston University hosts the Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria Accelerator (CARB-X) as a standalone programme within its structure. The CARB-X programme is a global non-profit partnership funded by the governments of the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Italy and Japan, plus the Wellcome Trust (UK), the Gates Foundation (US) and the Novo-Nordisk Foundation (Denmark). The CARB-X programme was created in 2016 to support early-stage product development to advance novel antibacterial therapeutics, preventatives and diagnostics through the pipeline. CARB-X runs global, competitive calls for proposals and awards non-dilutive grants to successful applicant product developers (PDs). The PDs can be based anywhere in the world and be university groups/spin-outs, SMEs or larger companies. PDs are also provided with a bespoke package of non-financial support from a wide range of experts when in the CARB-X portfolio.
