Mission & Goals
True Animal Protein Price (TAPP) Coalition is a non-profit foundation, focused on fair food prices and taxes including external environmental and health costs, to make the production and consumption of meat and dairy and other animal based proteins more sustainable. This will reduce consumption in line with planetary boundaries and dietary guidelines. We also advocate for (fiscal) subsidies for healthy food and food with low carbon footprints and a socially just transition. We cannot do this alone. That is why we work together with partners with similar goals and interests. Together, we work towards a fair future for people, animals and nature. We are a coalition of over 80 food companies and organisations working in agriculture, health, animal welfare, environment or youth, representing 2,4 million people and 7000 companies (EU, USA, Africa). Some of our partners have members in many EU countries (e.g. Ecopreneur, FoodRise EU, Proveg), while we represent NGOs in 10 EU countries.
EU Legislative Interests
We target different EU legislative proposals like the EU 2040 climate targets, EU Farm to Fork Strategy, Sustainable Food System Framework Law, EU agriculture subsidies (CAP reform), fiscal policies for food products (eg VAT reform, import taxes/CBAM), ETS for agri-food sectors, Climate finance (loss and damage fund), EU /international climate policies and Agriculture policies, EU public producurement
Communication Activities
Types of outreach towards EU institutions is writing letters/emails, events, publications, meetings and other communication. For instance we organised an an event 17th February 2025 in Brussels on risks and benefits of Agri-ETS, see: https://tappcoalition.eu/nieuws/23381/agri-food-ets-conference-brussels---future-climate-action--benefits--risk---alternatives-#:~:text=Benefits%2C%20Risk%20%26%20Alternatives%20was%20organised%20by%20TAPP,and%20in%20view%20of%20a%20CBAM%20import%20tax. Another example: an event in February 2020 in the EU parliament 'the true price of meat', where we presented two reports, we had a campaign and a petition on EU food prices and we published reports, like 'Sustainability charge on meat' and 'Aligning food prices with the EU Green deal'. We also organised the EU Food price debate, an online event. We succesfully urged the EU Parliament to amend the EU Farm to Fork Strategy, on the topic of VAT tariffs for food products, and true pricing (0% rate for vegetables and fruit and highest VAT for food with negative impacts on health or sustainability). In 2023 we organised an event in Brussels where we handed over a report 'Pay as you eat dairy, eggs and meat' to a representative of the EU Commission. We support the EU Agri-ETS report published 13th November 2023 by the EU commission. We wrote a letter to EU Commissioners and EU Parliament on Agri-ETS: https://tappcoalition.eu/nieuws/21976/open-letter-to-ursula-von-der-leyen-on-climate-goals-agri-food-and-ets. We are invited for the EU Commission technical workshops on Agri-ETS. Sometimes we write letters to EU Commissioners or European ministers of Climate or Agriculture.
