Mission & Goals
We work with local partners in the world’s most at-risk communities and with people in Ireland to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and injustice and respond to the crises they create. Together we bring about positive and lasting change for a just world. We do so by focusing on five key goals. GOAL 1 Defend Human Rights GOAL 2 Achieve Climate & Environmental Justice GOAL 3 Ensure Women’s & Girls Protection, Voice & Influence GOAL 4 Save Lives & Protect Human Dignity GOAL 5 Mobilise the Public to Achieve Global Justice.
EU Legislative Interests
As an International Non-Governmental Organisation, working on matters related to international development and humanitarianism, our interests relate to proposals and policies that improve the lives and conditions of those most at risk and in poverty globally. We therefore have an interest in all EU Policies and proposals that relate to INGOs, local and national actors, countries and citizens in the global south (particularly around matters of EU Programming and Business and Human Rights for example). We also engage with EU strategies on civil society within Europe and Ireland in particular. Examples of legislative proposals, policies, frameworks etc that Trocaire responds to include the consultation on the EU Civil Society Strategy or in relation to the publication of the EU Proposal on the next Multi Annual Financial Framework for 2028+.
Communication Activities
We engage directly with the EU Parliament, European Commission and national government representatives in relation to EU on an ongoing basis. We engage around EU policies, strategies and proposals that relate to the work that we have responsibility for, related to our strategic plan and 5 key goals. We produce material and run events, campaigns which advocate for and support people and organisations in the global south, as well as educating and informing people within Europe, particularly Ireland, on key global issues that Europe can help to resolve and support. We are also engaged and members of groups / networks such as CIDSE, Caritas Europa, EULAT, CONCORD and VOICE EU. Further information can be found on our website: www.trocaire.org
