Mission & Goals

This organization has conducted meetings between MEPs and Members of Congress to work through issues such as trade, defense, etc., and build relationships and familiarity between the institutions. Meetings are hosted annually in Washington, D.C., via our organization, and periodically in Brussels. A limited scholarship for foreign affairs collegiate students is in development for EU trainees and Congressional staff alike. During the COVID19 period, we have been able to conduct video conferences, to ensure continuity of contact between both entities. This included coordination of strategic discussions leading the U.S. Congress to adopt rules and technical procedures for remote functionality based upon the EU Parliament experience (remote and proxy voting). We are back to an in-person format, with events, direct meetings, MEP delegation assistance, and other activities planned for 2026 both in Brussels and Washington, D.C.

EU Legislative Interests

Our desire is to enhance dialogue between the legislative bodies of the U.S. and EU (namely the U.S. Congress and MEPs in the EU Parliament). The specific policies we have discussed in the past in these joint meetings are resolving trade/tariff tensions, enhancing our mutual defense/security, addressing climate issues, mutual cooperation regarding GDPR/AI/cyber and having a mutual understanding of the process, procedures of each institution. Through dialogue, building relationships, hosting an annual (and other planned events) event in Washington, D.C. we aim to enhance the familiarity and cooperation of the Trans-Atlantic relationship between legislators in the EU and U.S.

Communication Activities

Annual TAG event on Capitol Hill (Washington, D.C.), coordination of other events between the EU Parliament and U.S. Congress, and development of a limited scholarship program for students studying international relations from a Trans-Atlantic perspective. In 2020, we have achieved hosting virtual conferences between MEPs (SecGen of EPP, SecGen of EP) and the Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committees of Rules and House Administration in order to enable the U.S. Congress to develop remote voting capabilities based upon the EP model. This was successfully held over several months time via the Trans Atlantic Parliamentary Group, and the rules were adopted and implemented on January 3, 2021 in the U.S. Congress. This continued throughout 2021-23 as well. We are working to host our annual event in Washington, D.C. in 2026 depending on getting legislative calendars in sync. In addition, supporting delegations from the EU Parliament when they seek meetings with the Administration and Members of Congress.
