Mission & Goals
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG is a transmission system operator, providing capacity to shippers interested in transporting gas in a safe, reliable and efficient manner. TAP became operational at the end of 2020 and is transporting natural gas from the Shah Deniz II offshore field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) near the Turkish-Greek border at Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy. TAP’s landfall in Italy provides multiple opportunities for onward transport of Caspian natural gas to some of the largest European markets. TAP could enable further South Eastern European and Western Balkan countries to decarbonise their economies, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia via the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline. TAP’s initial capacity of 10 bcm per year can be expanded in steps to reach at least 20 bcm per year.
EU Legislative Interests
TAP meets on a regular basis with selected EU stakeholders – including the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union, relevant Permanent Representations, Diplomatic Missions, Think Tanks and Industry Associations – to provide briefings on developments and progress and present the venture’s views on selected EU matters. TAP is particularly interested in European policy in relation to energy, climate, environment, trans-European networks, external relations (energy dimension), enlargement, foreign and security policy.
