Mission & Goals
The mission of The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization. NCMEC works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public, both in the United States and around the world, to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation.
EU Legislative Interests
Policies, regulations, and directives concerning online child sexual exploitation, online child safety, and the detection, reporting, and prevention of the sexual abuse of children online. The activities of The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) range from providing relevant technical assistance, background, and statistics on these issues and promoting proposals and policies that would enhance the safety of children online and the protection of children from enticement, grooming, and sexual abuse.
Communication Activities
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has provided technical assistance, testimony, written correspondence, and social media/PR messaging relating to: (1) extension of the temporary derogation to e-Privacy Directive; (2) proposed establishment of European Centre to Combat Online Child Sexual Abuse; and (3) proposed Regulation Laying Down Rules to Prevent and Combat Child Sexual Abuse.
