Mission & Goals
The Irish Wildlife Trust (IWT) is a non-governmental organisation and charity founded in 1979 (Charity no: 20010966). The Irish Wildlife Trust’s vision is an Ireland where wild nature thrives, and society enjoys the benefits of coexisting with diverse, functioning ecosystems. Our Mission The Irish Wildlife Trust’s mission is to protect and restore biodiversity in Ireland by motivating and supporting people to take action for nature. We aim to achieve this through assertive advocacy, inspirational rewilding, and building empowered communities for nature.
EU Legislative Interests
The main EU legislative policies targeted will be The Birds and Habitats Directives, The Nature Restoration Law and the Common Fisheries Policy.
Communication Activities
Campaigns - we are part of a EU wide campaign to improve the management of Marine Protected Areas for nature. The campaign is coordinated by Seas at Risk and Oceana. As part of this campaign we have meetings with and send emails to Irish MEPs in the relevant EU parliamentary committees responsible for this laws for example the; Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development Committee on Fisheries
