Mission & Goals
Founded in 1984 and based in Brussels, IGLYO is the largest member-based network in the world dedicated to LGBTQI children and young people, and their rights. Today, we gather over 120 Member Organisations in 39 Council of Europe countries, as well as countless friends and partners worldwide. Our work focuses on the protection, empowerment, and freedom of LGBTQI children and young people. We strive to ensure the voices and experiences of LGBTQI children and young people are heard by decision-makers at European and international levels by designing and conducting research, advocacy, and communications on our concerns. In addition, IGLYO aims to build the confidence, skills and experience of LGBTQI children and young people and give them opportunities to connect through cross-cultural, cross-border exchange, peer learning, and training activities that support our communities as well as the protection of our rights.
EU Legislative Interests
IGLYO is working on EU legislative proposals, actions and awareness raising around LGBTQI children and young people's rights. This work includes the horizontal anti-discrimination directive, the EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy, the EU Youth Strategy, the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child, gender equality initiatives, hate crime and hate speech, and policy initiatives regarding non-discrimination in the area of education, health and employment.
