Mission & Goals

Founded in 1984 and based in Brussels, IGLYO is the largest member-based network in the world dedicated to LGBTQI children and young people, and their rights. Today, we gather over 120 Member Organisations in 39 Council of Europe countries, as well as countless friends and partners worldwide. Our work focuses on the protection, empowerment, and freedom of LGBTQI children and young people. We strive to ensure the voices and experiences of LGBTQI children and young people are heard by decision-makers at European and international levels by designing and conducting research, advocacy, and communications on our concerns. In addition, IGLYO aims to build the confidence, skills and experience of LGBTQI children and young people and give them opportunities to connect through cross-cultural, cross-border exchange, peer learning, and training activities that support our communities as well as the protection of our rights.

EU Legislative Interests

IGLYO works on EU policy development, implementation and awareness-raising concerning the rights of LGBTQI children and young people. This includes the EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy, the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child, the EU Youth Strategy and EU Youth Dialogue, the Gender Equality Strategy, the EU Anti-Racism Strategy and Action Plan, the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, the European Pillar of Social Rights, the European Education Area’s work on equality and values in education, the EU Action Plan against Cyberbullying, Rule of Law reporting, and EU initiatives on hate crime, hate speech, non-discrimination, health, education, housing and employment.
