Mission & Goals

The International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ) was founded in 2014 with a mandate from its Governing Board of Administrators to provide rule of law-based capacity-building to criminal justice stakeholders — including lawmakers, police, prosecutors, judges, corrections officials, and other justice sector actors — on how to address terrorism and related transnational criminal activities. The IIJ focuses on countries seeking to develop rule of law-based approaches to address security challenges and strengthen criminal justice systems to promote justice, security and human rights. The IIJ works primarily in countries in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, with strategic engagement in the Western Balkans as well as South and Central Asia.
