Mission & Goals

The ERRC’s vision is for Roma to overcome antigypsyism and its legacy, to achieve dignity, equality, and full respect for their human rights, and to use their experience to contribute to a more just and sustainable world.

EU Legislative Interests

The organisation targets EU legislative and policy initiatives relating to Roma equality, inclusion, participation and access to justice, including the EU Roma Strategic Framework 2020–2030 and related Council Recommendation; the EU anti-racism framework, including measures addressing antigypsyism; the implementation and strengthening of the Racial Equality Directive and the broader equality acquis; justice and victims’ rights legislation, including hate crime and hate speech initiatives; and EU migration, asylum, free movement, digital and AI policies where these affect Roma communities’ fundamental rights

Communication Activities

The European Roma Rights Centre carries out a range of communication and advocacy activities aimed at influencing EU law and policy on Roma equality, non-discrimination and fundamental rights. These include the publication of legal analyses, research reports, policy briefs, and submissions to EU institutions on the implementation of the EU Roma Strategic Framework, the Racial Equality Directive, and the EU Anti-Racism framework, with a particular focus on combating antigypsyism, segregation, and rights violations. ERRC engages in advocacy campaigns and awareness-raising initiatives highlighting systemic discrimination against Roma across the EU, including issues such as forced evictions, school segregation, police misconduct, and barriers to access to justice. These campaigns often involve cooperation with civil society partners, grassroots Roma organisations, and EU-level networks. The organisation also participates in and organises events, expert meetings, roundtables, and conferences with EU institutions (including the European Commission, European Parliament and Council stakeholders), as well as with national authorities and international organisations, to present evidence, share recommendations, and promote rights-based policy solutions. In addition, ERRC undertakes strategic communication through media engagement, including press releases, opinion pieces, and social media outreach, to raise public awareness and inform EU-level debates on Roma rights, anti-racism, migration, and digital rights. It also contributes to consultations, hearings, and stakeholder dialogues organised by EU institutions, providing expert input on legislative and policy developments.
