Mission & Goals
To address discrimination, hate speech, and violence against LGBTI+ persons in the EU. NGOs of parents of LGBTI+ persons may advocate for the enforcement of the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation through awareness-raising campaigns and legal action when necessary. To allow transgender individuals to legally change their gender without being required to undergo medical procedures or receive a psychiatric diagnosis. To promote fundamental rights of EU citizens, including the right to non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, as well as for the protection of these rights across the EU. To promote a universalised right to family and adoption. To promote legislation for LGBTI+ families reunifications due to migrations. Promote diversity education at school and combat bullying.
EU Legislative Interests
To address discrimination, hate speech, and violence against LGBTI+ persons in the EU, it is essential to adhere to specific European laws such as the EU Equality Directives (Directive 2000/43/EC and Directive 2000/78/EC) which prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, as well as the EU Framework Decision on combating certain forms and expressions of racism and xenophobia by means of criminal law (2008/913/JHA). To ensure compliance with the EU Gender Recognition Act (Directive 2004/19/EC), it is crucial to allow transgender individuals to legally change their gender without being required to undergo medical procedures or receive a psychiatric diagnosis. To promote the fundamental rights of EU citizens, including the right to non-discrimination based on sexual orientation, and for the protection of these rights across the EU, in compliance with the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (2012/C 326/02). To promote a universalised right to family and adoption, EU member states must adhere to the EU's Adoption and Children Act (Regulation (EC) No 2201/2003), which sets out the rules for the recognition of adoption orders made in one EU country by another EU country. ENP and its partners (NGOs of parents of LGBTI+ persons) advocate and will continue to advocate for the enforcement of these laws and for universalising them all over Europe, through awareness-raising campaigns and legal action when necessary.
Communication Activities
The European Network of Parents of LGBTI+ Persons (ENP) engages in permanent advocacy and networking to empower NGOs in advocating for laws that promote equality and protect the rights of LGBTI+ individuals. ENP uses various activities to promote these laws, including webinars, books, and projects. For example, the "TransMission" and "Beyond the Binary" webinars educate the public about the experiences of trans* parents and intersex individuals and their families. The book "Tell It Out!" features stories of parents and their journeys when their LGBTI+ children come out. The Erasmus+ European project "Let's Change the Pace" brought together NGOs from 6 European countries, and experts and participants from even more countries, to produce online webinars, a movie about parents' experiences, video testimonials, and e-booklets to raise awareness about the challenges faced by trans* youth. The project culminated in a conference in Lisbon, where a parents' manifesto advocating for trans* rights was presented in the Lisbon parliament, highlighting the power of networking and advocacy to promote change. As an umbrella organisation ENP continues to create networking activities; aiming to unite parents and NGOs from across Europe, to advocate together as one, strong voice.
