Mission & Goals

The Court of the Citizens of the World (CCW), founded in 2022, is a People’s Tribunal that works to strengthen access to international justice. We create spaces where allegations of serious violations of international law can be considered through public proceedings based on documentary and oral evidence. Our tribunals highlight urgent issues of global concern, with future initiatives such as the Ecocide Tribunal in preparation. Where formal institutions have stalled or failed, CCW acts with international law, civil courage, and ethical responsibility at its core. Through tribunals, screenings, debates, and public hearings, we promote accountability, democratic participation, and the protection of human rights and the environment.

EU Legislative Interests

- EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy – overarching framework guiding EU external action on human rights. - EU Guidelines on the Protection of Human Rights Defenders – aligns with advocacy and public tribunals. - EU Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) decisions concerning accountability for international crimes. - Legislation addressing ecocide and environmental crimes under the European Green Deal. - Corporate due diligence and supply chain responsibility initiatives – related to accountability for serious international law violations. - Implementation of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in external action. Our engagement focuses on informing and raising awareness among Members of the European Parliament and civil society about gaps in access to international justice and areas where EU policies on human rights, accountability, and the environment are relevant.

Communication Activities

Our communication activities include: - Publishing tribunal evidence and video clips from proceedings on our website and online platforms, providing accessible documentation of testimonies, expert presentations, and tribunal findings. - Outreach to Members of the European Parliament, governments, and human rights experts, sharing tribunal evidence and materials to raise awareness of urgent global justice issues and their relevance to EU policy frameworks. - Organizing public events and debates around screenings of tribunal proceedings to engage experts, policymakers, and civil society in dialogue about accountability, human rights, and environmental protection. - Reports summarizing tribunal findings that highlight gaps in accountability and their significance for EU-relevant policies, shared with stakeholders including MEPs and policy experts.
